Senior/Lead Test Automation Engineer (VPN)

Join Surfshark’s VPN Engineering team as a Senior Test Automation Engineer, working closely with teams that work on providing VPN service to our customers. You’ll be a key player in ensuring the reliability and performance of our VPN systems through automation. This role suits someone who’s confident working independently, comfortable testing complex distributed systems, and passionate about integrating quality practices deep into engineering workflows.

If you want to:

  • Collaborate closely with infrastructure engineers and the QA Guild to build robust automated testing for system-level and connectivity scenarios;
  • Take full ownership of designing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive automated tests that validate system functionality and performance;
  • Work independently to identify gaps, design new test coverage, and ensure high reliability across system components;
  • Continuously improve QA process integration into CI/CD pipelines;
  • Lead by example and mentor other team members on automation and testing best practices.

  • And you can check off:

  • Proven experience in test automation;
  • Strong experience using JavaScript/TypeScript for test automation;
  • Hands-on experience with frameworks like Playwright or WebdriverIO;
  • Familiarity with Docker and Docker Compose;
  • Experience integrating and running automated tests in CI/CD environments;
  • Solid understanding of test case design and management;
  • Proven ability to work independently and take ownership of complex testing initiatives;
  • Dedication and passion for ensuring product stability and quality.

  • Bonus points if you:

  • Have experience with Appium for mobile automation;
  • Have experience with app framework infrastructure or using device farms for running e2e tests;
  • Have a good understanding of Linux fundamentals and are comfortable working in Linux-based environments;
  • Are comfortable with monitoring and logging tools like Grafana or Elasticsearch for managing automation results;
  • Have experience writing automation scripts in Node.js or Python to support test execution and workflow automation.
